Trading Carbon & Carbon Emmision for The Goals with Feasibility Study of Mangrove Planting First

PT Bhumi Jati Power (PT BJP) is an independent power producer (IPP) company formed to develop the Tanjung Jati B Units 5 and 6 coal-fired Steam Power Plant (PLTU) on Java Island. PT BJP participates in realizing Indonesia’s development in the environmental realm to protect the terrestrial ecosystem through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. It is in line with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 13 and 15, namely “Tackling Climate Change” and “Maintaining Mainland Ecosystems.”

As a concrete step for the company to carry out social and environmental responsibility, PT BJP carries out a CSR program to reduce the carbon impact produced by the production process and efforts to maintain the balance of the environmental ecosystem. PT BJP plans to initiate a program by planting mangroves in the coastal area of Jepara Regency, Central Java Province. Before program implementation, a feasibility study related to the mangrove planting program or the Feasibility Study of the Mangrove Planting Program on the coast of Jepara Regency is needed.

Besides that, a projection of carbon absorption generated by mangrove trees in the upcoming years was conducted, along with recommendations for mangrove planting based on the analysis of the feasibility study of the program. The Feasibility Study of Mangrove Planting Program was conducted to ensure that what can implement the program in ecologically and socially suitable locations is effective and sustainable.
