The action to preserve climate change and develop eco-tourism, Sampoerna planted mango trees in Karawang

“PT HM Sampoerna Tbk through the Sampoerna untuk Indonesia program, provided thousands of mango plant seedlings to Women Farmers Groups (KWT), Farmers Groups (POKTAN), and the community in Sumberjaya Village, Tempuran District, Karawang Regency. The types of mango seedlings provided include budiraja mango, arumanis mango, Indramayu mango, kiojai mango, and honey palace mango.

This activity aims to support the Tourism Village Development program and climate change mitigation by Karawang Regency in accordance with SDGs points 13 (Climate action), 15 (Life and land), 17 (partnership for the goals), and collaborate with the company’s social responsibility partner, Yayasan Senyum Untuk Negeri (SUN).

Present at the event were the Head of Food Crops and Horticulture Division of Karawang Regency Government, Nani Dwi Astuti, and the Head of the Technical Implementation Unit of Agriculture of Tempuran Sub-district, Asep Suardani.

“The support from Sampoerna can be a stimulus in developing agricultural potential in the village, one of which is mango. Of course, we must work together among village residents, village government, private sector, sub-district, agricultural and tourism agencies, and others to ensure that the entire program runs smoothly and achieves its goals,” said Nani quoted from a written statement on Monday (27/3/2023).

It is known that this program is also in line with the company’s Three Hand Philosophy, which is to contribute to all stakeholders of the company. Including the wider community, in this case, residents around Karawang Regency.

Meanwhile, Sampoerna’s Head of External Affairs, Ishak Danuningrat, said that this program is an effort by Sampoerna to support the progress of Karawang’s economy through the Sampoerna untuk Indonesia program, specifically the social pillar, namely the socio-economic welfare in the supply chain and community.

“Karawang Regency actually has great tourism potential for the local economy. The role of the community, private sector, and government is very important to be able to build and package these potentials into tourism attractions,” said Ishak.

As information, besides providing mango plant seedlings in the tourism village, Sampoerna untuk Indonesia, together with the company’s social responsibility partner, also revitalized the Jatidipala Garden and planted mangrove trees in Kalen Kalong Hamlet, Sumberjaya Village, Tempuran, Karawang.”
