PT Pertamina Drilling Service Indonesia (PDSI) launched the Thousand Trees for Drilling program. This program will further strengthen the company’s commitment to protecting the environment and nature conservation.
PDSI President Director Lelin Eprianto when met at the Grand Launching of Green Drilling & Health Operation ‘Thousand Trees For Drilling, in Karang Enggal, Sukra District, Indramayu, West Java, last week, said that through this program, his party planted 2,500 trees in the area. former PDSI drilling job site. This year, the company will plant in ten drilling locations, including Indramayu, Garut, Aceh, southern Sumatra and East Kalimantan.
The tree planting is carried out around the area of oil and gas and geothermal wells with a total of 100-500 trees at each point. The types of trees planted include perennials and fruits which are endemic to the local area.
In order to support the success of the program, PDSI, said Lelin, also involved the surrounding community to become environmental ambassadors (tree guardians). They will be tasked with planting and caring for the trees for 12 months. “Besides planting trees, we also process organic waste at the drilling site using the takakura method,” explained Lelin.
He admitted that every drilling operational activity always produces piles of waste, both organic and non-organic. Based on the calculation results of the PDSI team, during drilling activities in the span of one to two months, no less than 2.4 tons of domestic waste is produced.
Of that amount, 26.38 percent or 633 quintals of which is organic waste. The organic waste is processed into compost through the takakura composter method. ”The compost is then distributed to local farmers or to fertilize trees that are replanted,” said Lelin.
Head of Environmental Damage Conservation Division of the Environmental Agency of Indramayu Regency, Lutfi Harumain, responded to this activity. According to him, the obligation to protect and preserve the environment is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the company and the community. ed: Republika – khoirul azwar
