The Company Performance Rating Program or often referred to as PROPER, is one of the efforts made by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in encouraging companies to manage the environment in Indonesia. The implementation of PROPER is a form of embodiment of transparency and community involvement in environmental management in Indonesia. There are 5 PROPER criteria, which if sorted from the lowest criteria, namely black, red, blue, green, and gold. Of the many companies that become PROPER candidates, only a few can achieve gold PROPER. For the latest data, in 2017, there were 19 companies that won gold PROPER. These companies are:
- Pertamina EP Asset 1 – Field Rantau
- Pertamina (Persero) Marketing Operation Region V DPPU Ngurah Rai

One of the reasons why the companies mentioned above can get gold PROPER is because of the programs that have been implemented by them. The most supportive program to get the highest score so as to achieve the golden criteria is the implementation of the community development (comdev) program. Companies that get gold PROPER are more interested in establishing edutourism or ecotourism or, more simply, building tourist villages. From there, various kinds of employment opportunities arise that indirectly empower the surrounding community and improve their welfare from an economic perspective. As has been done by PT. Badak NGL, PT. Pertamina RU VI Balongan, PT. Bio Farma (Persero), and PT. Aneka Tambang (Persero), Tbk. Pongkor Gold Mining Business Unit. Of course, not only building tourist villages and the like, there are many other programs related to improving the welfare of the community around the company’s area. (adt)
